The Sri Lanka Planetarium, located on Prof. Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha in Colombo 07, is the first and only planetarium in Sri Lanka, established on February 1, 1965, as part of the Ceylon Industrial Exhibition. Designed by engineer A. N. S. Kulasinghe with a lotus-shaped dome inspired by the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and Cathedral of Brasília, it features a 570-seat auditorium and a digital full-dome projector. Offering educational shows on astronomy, including the solar system, constellations, and celestial events, it serves as a hub for science enthusiasts and students. Additional programs include workshops, night sky observation camps, and a mobile planetarium for outreach, with plans for a 4D upgrade in the future.
