Port City Colombo isn't just a skyline to photograph from Marine Drive. Here's everything you can actually do there — water sports, racing, horse riding, golf, and more.
Port City Colombo Has More To Do Than You Think
Most Colombo locals have been to Port City at least once. Usually it's a drive through, a walk along the waterfront, a stop at one of the restaurants. You look at the skyline, take a few photos, and head back.
What most people don't realise is that Port City is now one of the better spots in Colombo for actually doing something. Water sports, racing, horse riding, golf, ATV — all within a short walk of each other. This guide covers everything you can actually do there.
The Clubhouse: water sports on the Port City waterfront
The Clubhouse is Port City's main water sports operator, on the waterfront near the southern end of the development. Three activities, same base, easy to combine.
A banana boat ride is exactly what it sounds like — an inflatable tube towed behind a speedboat, with several riders hanging on as it cuts across the water. Sessions run 20 to 30 minutes. No skill required; the only job is to stay on (you'll probably end up in the water anyway).
Best for: groups, families, anyone who wants to get wet
Jet skiing runs in 15-minute sessions on the open water just off Port City. Quick, supervised, works for first timers. The Colombo skyline in the background is a bonus.
Best for: anyone after a quick adrenaline hit, couples, small groups
Kitesurfing and windsurfing are the longer sessions — one to two hours, instructor-guided for beginners, equipment on-site. Wind-dependent, so check availability before you show up. Operated daily from 7am to 8pm.
Best for: people who want to learn something new, anyone with some wind-sport background
The Beach Park: slower pace, longer time on the water
Further north along the Port City waterfront, The Beach Park runs its own set of water activities. Less speed, more time actually on the water.
Paddle boarding
Paddle boarding is an hour on a stand-up board on the open water. A decent workout if you push it, or a genuinely peaceful hour if you don't. No experience needed — you get a brief on balance before you head out.
Best for: solo visits, beginners, anyone who wants something active but low-key
Three hours on a yacht as the sun goes down over the Indian Ocean. The sunset sailing cruise with Sail Lanka costs more than anything else on this list by a fair margin. It's also a different category of outing — less activity, more occasion.
Best for: couples, small groups with something to celebrate, anyone who wants a proper evening out rather than a quick session
SpeedBay at Port City is a 560-metre circuit with seven corners and a chicane inside the Port City development. Sessions are ten minutes with lap time tracking. It's the most central karting option in Colombo — no drive out to Bandaragama needed.
Best for: office groups, competitive friends, anyone who wants a quick race after work

Ceylon Riding Club: horse riding at Port City
Horse riding is not what most people expect to find at Port City. The Ceylon Riding Club runs sessions from 20 minutes to an hour, beginner-friendly, with instructors on hand. Worth trying if only because nobody sees it coming.
Best for: families with kids, first timers, anyone who wants something genuinely unexpected
Colombo Dunes ATV Track: dirt biking at Crate Adventure
Colombo Dunes ATV Track at Crate Adventure runs 15-minute ATV and dirt bike sessions inside Port City. Short and to the point — you get on, you ride, you're done. Good if you want to add something quick and loud to the afternoon.
Best for: adrenaline seekers, groups, anyone who wants to try a dirt bike without a full day commitment
The Bay Golf Club is a driving range at the edge of Port City, looking out over the water. Bays fit up to six people, clubs are included, you pick how many balls you want. Non-golfers can sit with a drink while everyone else swings. Optional coaching is available if you actually want to improve rather than just hit things.
It's the cheapest activity on this list. Good for a relaxed hour, especially around dusk when the Port City skyline starts lighting up.
Best for: beginners, casual outings, corporate groups, anyone who wants a quieter session
Go early or late for water sports. Midday on the Port City waterfront gets hot. Before 11am or after 3pm is much better for anything water-based.
The Clubhouse and SpeedBay are a short walk apart. Easy to do both in one visit without much planning.
Weekdays are quieter. Most activities don't need advance booking mid-week. Weekends and public holidays are a different story — call ahead for SpeedBay and the sailing cruise especially.
Parking fills up on weekend evenings. Port City has parking inside the development but it gets busy once people start arriving for dinner. Factor that in if you're combining activities with a meal.
